James S. Miller

James S. Miller, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:12 P.M., Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Jim had worked as Chief Clerk for the Freeman Coal Company, working at Freeman Mine #11 and Buckheart Mine.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin.  He was also a member of the Du Quoin V.F.W., Du Quoin American Legion, Kiwanis Club, and Red Cross.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a medic in the 3rd Armored Division.

He was born March 4, 1917 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of George and Catherine (Horner) Miller.
He married Nola Bell (Hawk) Beard on August 23, 1979 at Du Quoin and she preceded him in death on February 22, 2001.

He is survived by one daughter - Theresa Johnson and husband David of Du Quoin, one son - Lybrand Beard and wife Kathy of Du Quoin, five grandchildren - Bryan Johnson and wife Hilary of Du Quoin, David Johnson of Elkville, Rebecca Carrothers and husband Jeff of West Frankfort, Pamela Pursell and husband Eddie of Du Quoin and Derek Beard of Du Quoin, eight great grandchildren, two nieces, one great niece, two great nephews, and one great great niece and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister - Dorothy Kish.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry J. Jerome officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 A.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion.

Friends may make memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Fair Acres Nursing Home and will be accepted at the funeral home.
